Can I Tell You a Story...

I hated doing estimates.

When I worked as a Project Manager for a Restoration Company typing on Xactimate was something that was squeezed in between talking with property owners, coordinating sub-contractors, accommodating adjusters, and driving between job sites. Skipping networking events to type. Not pursuing new business because I had to type.

In 2017 I started doing "appraisals" and "peer reviews" more regularly. In this role I had the opportunity to review thousands of estimates that were being disputed.

I saw estimates that omitted whole rooms and others included rooms that did not exist.

No supporting photos to justify equipment counts or worse yet photos that contradicted equipment billing.

I reviewed estimates that suggested the entire structure be removed & replaced because of a water stain and other estimates that try to spot seal and paint over structural concerns.

I learned that better estimates typically get better results faster. Now instead of hating estimates it is my main focus.
